| Macau's second wireless environment audit survey |
The Information systems Audit and Control Association ISACA Macao Chapter is organizing in Macao along with Macau New Technologies Incubator Centre (MANETIC) and other IT related professional information technology and information security associations of Macao and Hong Kong, to perform Macao's second wireless environment audit survey. This type of survey is routine overseas and is known as Wardriving. It involves in the detection of wireless local area network (WLAN) access points from publicly accessible places and recording their existence and estimated location. This survey will be made to bring awareness to the public and the interested parties of the current wireless environment that Macao has developed over the past years of installing a multitude low power wireless local area network (WLAN) access points. The aim of the study is to produce Macao's first map of the WLAN environment that is aimed to provide awareness to the public and interest parties of something that is invisible to the naked eye, yet potentially affects the security of their data and computer system. As the first report of its kind in Macao, the report will serve as a reference of improvements in security and WLAN use in Macao over the coming years. The survey is conducted by professionals in the wireless and information security field from associations that aim to improve the use of wireless local area network (WLAN) communications and their security features. The associations involved in the collection of wireless information are associations that are concerned about the security of the wireless environment that has developed in Macao. These associations, including ISACA (Macao Chapter) are: 1. Macau New Technologies Incubator Centre (MANETIC) 2. Macau Computer Association (MCA) 3. Electronic Commerce Association of Macau (eCAM) 4. Professional Information Security Association (PISA)
5. Wireless Technology Industry
Association (WTIA)
A report of the findings will be presented at the MANETIC Seminar room on Friday the 24th October 2008. Members of the associations will then present the data collected and discuss the its meaning to the public and the general issues of the WiFi environment in Macao.
